Sinop Nuclear Power Plant
Authorization of Nuclear Facilities
The studies for showing suitability of the site in İnceburun in Sinop province, which is a candidate for the second nuclear power plant of Türkiye were started in 2012.

Following the application for Site Approval submitted by Türkiye Nükleer Enerji Anonim Şirketi (TÜNAŞ) on May 30, 2023, Site Approval was granted by the decision of the NDK Board dated April 3, 2024, for the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant site situated in the Inceburun Locality of Abalı Village within the borders of Sinop Province along the Black Sea Coast of Türkiye, in accordance with the Nuclear Regulation Law No. 7381 along with the relevant legislation.

Process for the conformance verification of the Site Approval application for Sinop Nuclear Power Plant has been completed and review and assessment process has commenced.

Site Approval application for Sinop Nuclear Power Plant has been made by Türkiye Nükleer Enerji A.Ş. (TÜNAŞ) for the site located near İnceburun location in Sinop rovince.

The list of regulatory documents that will serve as the basis for the authorization of the Sinop Nuclear Power Plant has been determined by the decision of the Nuclear Regulatory Board.
January 27th, 2023
TÜNAŞ, which applied to build a nuclear power plant in the Sinop Site, was granted the “Owner” status on January 27th, 2023.
January 16th, 2023
Upon its request on December 30th, 2022, EÜAŞ’s “Owner” status was terminated on January 16th, 2023.
January 24th, 2018
EÜAŞ submitted the list and the report on “List of Licensing Basis for Sinop Nuclear Power Plant” according to the “Directive on Determination of Licensing Basis Regulations, Guides and Standards and Reference Plant for Nuclear Power Plants”. TAEK reviewed the list and the report. TAEK Atomic Energy Commission approved the “List of Licensing Basis for Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant”.
January 24th, 2018
EÜAŞ proposed the Flamanville III nuclear power plant, which was under construction in France, as a reference plant for the Sinop nuclear power plant on April 17, 2017. The proposal was accepted by the TAEK Atomic Energy Commission on January 24, 2018.
September 5th, 2013
EÜAŞ notified for site investigation studies in accordance with the Decree on Licensing of Nuclear Installations on September 5th, 2013, and started site investigation on October 5th, 2013.
August 22th, 2012
EÜAŞ applied to the Türkiye Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK) to build a nuclear power plant in the Sinop Site, which will consist of 4-6 units of PWR, BWR, or PHWR type nuclear reactors with a total power of up to 8400 MWe, granted the Owner status on August 22th 2012.
